Zimmer Dental Implants

Implants

Dental implants are used as an alternative to crowns, bridges, or dentures to replace teeth. Implants are comfortable and look and function like natural teeth. Zimmer has been providing high quality implants for over 20 years.

Care
In addition to looking and functioning like natural teeth, implants do not require special adhesives or care. Simply brush and floss just as you do your natural teeth.

Appearance
When a tooth is lost, the bone in the affected area shrinks (resorbs) away and may become brittle. This process can affect the surrounding teeth as well as changing the overall appearance of the facial structure. Some non-implant appliances may accelerate the process, but dental implants may slow or even prevent bone resorption.

Single Tooth Replacement
We may recommend a dental implant when a single tooth is lost due to trauma, cavity, or periodontal disease. Rather than using a removable bridge or partial, an implant with an implant crown will offer a long-term solution that requires fewer follow-up visits.

Multiple Tooth Replacement
For patients who are missing multiple teeth, an implant-supported bridge may be an option. Removable bridges or partial dentures can slip or loosen and cause irritation to the gums. An implant-supported bridge stays in place comfortably just like natural teeth.

The Implant Procedure
Before deciding on whether implants are the best option for you, we will evaluate your dental and medical history and examine your teeth. If you and your dentist decide that an implant is the best option, the first step will be to place the implant in the jaw. A post is attached to the implant to support the natural looking implant crown. An impression is taken and a replacement tooth is created in a lab and placed in a subsequent appointment.
